Comments Sought on Use of Blood Glucose Monitoring Systems

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Center for Clinical Standards and Quality/Survey & Certification Group (CCSQSC), issued directions in November 2014 on the off-label/modified use of bedside blood glucose monitoring systems. In the supporting document, off-label use of capillary glucose monitoring was noted to apply to several healthcare settings, including intensive care units. Subsequently, a temporary withdrawal was issued by CCSQSC, effective March 13, 2015. Comments are being submitted via e-mail and panels are being formed to work on this important issue.
